Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 9, 2026

1. Introduction

CatchUp ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your data when you use our service at getcatchup.dev. It applies to all users and is written in compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide when creating an account, including your name, email address, and username (via Clerk, our authentication provider). We also collect data generated through your use of CatchUp, including your watchlist, chat history, show queries, selected episodes, and UI preferences such as dark or light mode.

3. Lawful Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following lawful bases: (a) Performance of a contract — to provide the CatchUp service you signed up for, including generating recaps and maintaining your watchlist. (b) Legitimate interests — to improve the quality of our AI responses and ensure the security of our platform. (c) Consent — where you have explicitly agreed to optional data uses such as personalisation features.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and improve the CatchUp service, personalise your experience, maintain your watchlist and spoiler protection settings, enforce daily usage limits, analyse aggregate usage patterns to improve AI response quality, and communicate with you about the service when necessary.

5. AI and Chat Data

Your chat messages and show queries are processed by Groq (our AI infrastructure provider) to generate responses using large language models. Chat history is stored in our database to provide context for future conversations and support your history view within the app. You can delete individual chat sessions or your full history at any time directly from the app. We do not use your chat content to train AI models.

6. Data Sharing and Third-Party Providers

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers who help us operate CatchUp: Groq (AI inference), Supabase (database and storage), and Clerk (authentication). These providers process your data on our behalf under their respective data processing agreements and privacy commitments. Your data may be processed on servers located outside Nigeria, including in the United States. Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the provider's compliance with recognised data protection frameworks.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption in transit, Row-Level Security (RLS) on our database so users can only access their own data, JWT-based authentication via Clerk, and rate limiting to prevent abuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Chat history and watchlist data are retained to provide continuity of service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

9. Your Rights

Under the NDPR and GDPR (where applicable), you have the following rights regarding your personal data: (a) Right of access — to request a copy of the data we hold about you. (b) Right to rectification — to correct inaccurate or incomplete data. (c) Right to erasure — to request deletion of your data. (d) Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format. (e) Right to restriction — to request that we limit how we process your data. (f) Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at adeboyeadetayo107@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Cookies

CatchUp uses cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session and authentication state. These are essential cookies required for the service to function. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can control cookie settings through your browser, though disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.

11. Children's Privacy

CatchUp is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in jurisdictions where a higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below these ages. If you believe we have collected information from a child below the applicable age, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Where changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you directly. Continued use of CatchUp after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, our data practices, or wish to exercise your rights, please contact us at adeboyeadetayo107@gmail.com. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 30 days.
